Since forming in 1967, the GRAMMY-award-winning collective has featured numerous talented members and sold over 100 million records worldwide. The legendary band are now heading back to Australia for a headline tour in several cities across the country, including three shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Featuring a line-up of longtime band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie, as well as newcomers Neil Finn and Mike Campbell, it’s the first time the band will be performing headlining shows in Australia without guitarist Lindsey Buckingham since he joined the ensemble with his then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks in 1974.

Buckingham’s abrupt firing from the rock band last year was followed by a storm of media attention as the guitarist and the band traded barbs publicly. But frontman Mick Fleetwood was quick to reassure Fleetwood Mac fans that the addition of Crowded House frontman Finn and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Campbell was the right choice going forward.

In a collective statement to the press, the band added that they were thrilled to welcome the musical talents of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. Firmly assuring audiences that they’ll still be performing all the hits that fans love, as well as introducing some fun and surprising tracks from their historic catalogue of songs.

“Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution,” said the band. “We look forward to honouring that spirit on this upcoming tour.”

It only seems fitting that the band will celebrate their recent additions with a headline tour of Australia and New Zealand, as it was on this side of the world that the collaboration first began. Fleetwood and Finn had met before, but it was at the New Zealand Music Awards that the two initially rekindled their friendship, which was then cemented by Fleetwood agreeing to spend a week in the studio playing the drums on a project Finn was working on with his family.

Later, while preparing to play several live shows in New Zealand, Fin received a call inviting him to join Fleetwood Mac, as well as asking him to come to Hawaii for a jam session with Mike Campbell and the band. "It was very strange but kind of exciting," Neil told ABC’s 7.30. Adding that, as he’d just turned 60, it was kind of like a birthday gift.

“Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents,” said Mick Fleetwood. “We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realise that this is the right combination to go forward within Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound.”
